What You’ll Be Doing:
- Learning to assess, research, and catalogue a wide variety of auction items—from fine art to curios, toys to militaria
- Supporting the setup of sales, including photography, catalogue writing, and post-sale administration
- Assisting with auction-day duties to ensure smooth, professional events
- Gradually taking on customer-facing responsibilities as your skills grow
- Developing your own areas of interest and expertise over time
What We’re Looking For:
- A genuine passion for antiques, vintage items, or collectables—whether it's furniture, ceramics, militaria, toys, books, or ephemera
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive mindset with strong attention to detail
- Good IT and organisational abilities
- A desire to learn and grow professionally
- Prior knowledge of the antiques world is helpful but not essential—enthusiasm and curiosity are what matter most

Location: Kirkbymoorside

Key Responsibilities
Valuation & Appraisal
· Conduct detailed evaluations of antiques, fine art, jewellery, militaria, and collectables, determining authenticity, provenance, condition, and market value.
· Provide accurate and professional written and verbal appraisals for clients.
Cataloguing & Research
· Oversee the preparation of detailed, accurate catalogue descriptions for auction lots.
· Perform in-depth research on historical and market data to enhance the understanding and presentation of items.
Client Engagement
· Advise clients on selling or acquiring items through auctions.
· Maintain and build relationships with consignors, buyers, and other stakeholders, ensuring exceptional service.
Auction Support
· Collaborate with auctioneers and the sales team to maximise auction performance.
· Present items during previews and participate in public or private valuations.
Mentorship
· Lead, train, and mentor junior valuers and other team members, sharing expertise and best practices.
Market Insight
· Stay up-to-date with market trends, sales data, and emerging areas of interest in the antiques and collectables industry.
Skills & Qualifications
· Extensive knowledge of antiques, fine art, and collectables across multiple categories.
· Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in valuation and appraisals, preferably within an auction house.
· Excellent research and cataloguing skills, with attention to detail.
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for client interaction and catalogue production.
· Proficiency in auction house software and research tools.
· Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects effectively.
