SALE RESULTS: THE DAVID HALL COLLECTION COUNTRY HOUSE SALE

Thirsk-based antiques and interiors dealer David Hall sadly passed away earlier this year and Ryedale Auctioneers was entrusted with the sale of his stock. David sold country house style pieces to trade customers, interior designers, and private clients.

Over 100 table lamps went under the hammer, most of them converted from porcelain vases by David himself. Chinese lamps proved extremely popular with buyers, with many selling for hundreds of pounds.

A portrait of Lady Philadelphia Howard sold for £2,800, and a full-length portrait by Florence Engelbach for £1,750.

The furniture section was well represented, with a large Chippendale style Country House sofa selling for £2,700, and a pair of French salon chairs went for £1,500.

Day two of the sale began with a selection of busts, followed by a collection of rare books which sold for £5,500.

The sale garnered wide interest from trade and private buyers, and coverage from local and national press.

Auctioneer Jeremy Wood, who catalogued the sale, said: “The fact that 99% of the lots sold is a real testament to David’s eye for perfectly styled pieces. We hope we have done his memory proud.”
