AUCTION RESULTS: Beal House Collection

Good results were achieved in Ryedale Auctioneers’ most recent country house sale, the residual contents of Beal House near Thirsk, with many lots exceeding their estimates.

Beal House was owned by the late Ian Stewart, a businessman who lived and worked in both the UK and Far East, who died in 2019 aged 70. He amassed hundreds of antiques in the country house style over his many years of collecting.

The primary sale of the contents of the house was held by Edinburgh auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull in 2020. Despite some of the contents already being sold there was still plenty left to clear, with over 650 lots going under the hammer, including several dozen garden items.

Top selling lots included a 1980s Rolex Oyster wristwatch which sold for £2,700, a John Deere smallholders tractor which sold for £8,100, a large Victorian pine dresser which went for £2,300, and an early 20th century red painted Chinese coffee table which achieved £2,050.*

Ryedale Auctioneers’ next Country House Sale will take place in Spring 2022.
