An astonishing collection of hundreds of WWI casualty medals will go under the hammer next month...

The owner of the collection visited the French cemeteries of each of the fallen soldiers and noted the inscriptions from the corresponding graves, adding these to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s digital archive: https://www.cwgc.org/

The collection also includes several bronze WWI memorial plaques or ‘death pennies’, known as such due to their resemblance to the coin. The family of servicemen killed received these tokens of condolence after the war.

Further entries are invited for this sale, which is sure to create plenty of interest.
